Summary
An eerie silence followed him, as he made his way down the path. He couldn’t hear the faint hiss of spiders crawling around, nor was there the faint crunch of grass that held the tell-tale sign of a shade out to ambush.
He kept catching himself keeping an ear out for a second pair of footsteps trailing right behind him; or maybe the sound of her voice chatting his ear off, chastising him over something stupid he did– only for his new reality to sink in a moment later.
It was strange, being alone again, after several months of being around people. It used to be that the chaos of the kingdoms was overwhelming; with all their noises, their touches, their scents. After eons in nothingness, being blasted with sensations was... a lot. But... in good way.
He got comfortable. Too comfortable.

He never thought he’d be back here again.
No, scratch that– he never wanted to be back here again. It was the last thing he wanted, actually, to the point he gave away nearly everything just to escape it.
But things never really tend to go his way, now, do they?
Avid’s one solace is that they weren’t technically in Limbo, right now, but instead a small pocket of the void that doesn’t seem to want to tear you apart, particle by particle. It still wasn’t the greatest, not by a long shot, but at least he felt like he could breathe...

Avid’s head twisted up to the podium to see who had thrown the thing at him(and– really? A– A milk carton?), only to find... no one?
Before that really sunk in, he saw movement out of the corner of his eye, and when he snapped back to look at the milk carton, he found that it was... wait, why is it moving.
“Jeez, ow,” the voice from before said, and it sounded like it was– coming from the milk carton?? It started to shake from side to side, like it was trying to get back on its feet(er– metaphorically speaking). “Okay, now that was just uncalled for, mister. Is that how you treat all your guests?”
Avid stared at it. “What the hell,” he whispered, voice quiet yet passionate.

As Arthur stumbled along the empty dirt road, the orange-pink light of the sun slowly growing dimmer and dimmer, he found himself wondering how exactly things came to this.
His orders? Patrol around Tempo, stop any crimes he sees, report back to HQ if he comes across something bigger than he can handle, then go back home to his roommate and collapse onto the couch while they watch those bad horror movies she always seemed to adore for some reason.
It was supposed to be simple.
Why couldn’t it have been simple?

There were a lot of unwritten rules, for dealing with humans.

Never give them your thanks, or accept their gifts, or you’ll owe them a favor.
Never listen to their music, for the moment their melodies hit your ears, you’ll never find any sort of meaning in any other songs again.

Avid's been trapped in Limbo for a thousand years, so of course he takes the first way out he's given. Everything comes at a price, though, and now he's fractured into pieces as only part of him gets to escape.
He's less-than-nothing, a ghost of himself. But at least he's not alone.

With Legundo's usual ever-present time limit bearing down on both him and this new unknown, things seem set to unravel... whether or not anyone wants them to.

Inspired by a Tumblr post by Ectoimp (link to the post in the notes of the first chapter)
What if instead of being the over-dramatic skeleton he is, Lewis followed the gang like a normal person without encountering a crazy tree lady and hijacking a semi truck after the events of 'Ghost?' What if he found out on his own that Arthur was innocent? He doesn't want to reveal his identity to his friends, but he still wants to apologize to Arthur for attacking him. How, though? By being an overbearing ghostly mother hen, of course!

“Yeah,” Arthur chuckles without any real humor behind it. “It’s… Not ideal. There isn’t a whole lot to do here but I’ve tried to make the most of it. It’ll be a lot nicer with you here! Which by the way, I don’t think I caught your name before?”
Lewis doesn’t want to say it. If Arthur wants to pretend like he doesn’t know him then Lewis isn’t giving him his name.
“Call me Wraith.” He decides instead.
“Wraith— fitting.” Arthur nods, mostly to himself. “You already know my name— I’m assuming Reverb used it?”
“He did.” Lewis lies.
“Makes sense… Well, uh. I hate to say it but you should probably get comfortable. We might be stuck here for a while.”
(An encounter at the mansion ends with Lewis' anchor under Reverb's control. As it turns out, Arthur's body is also under Reverb's control, which leads to an interesting reunion in their now joined subconscious. Not that Arthur knows who Lewis really is.)
