Summary
An attack on the Dreaming leaves Dream wounded and weakened in an unexpected way- physically, mentally, and emotionally, Dream is temporarily left as a child.
Hob is given the task of watching over him until he heals, which seems simple enough, but slowly through their time together he learns more about the things his love struggles with and why. He learns more about Dream’s family, and the ways he’s been hurt that he won’t admit. But with Hob’s help, he may begin to heal some of his ancient hurts.

“Rose Walker,” Dream murmurs, announcing his presence. He steps across the carpet and kneels down in front of Rose. This woman who’d stared him down and given her consent to die by his hand. This child who had been forced into all of this because of his sibling. And himself, inadvertently.
The collateral damage from the petty fights of deities.
Twenty one years old.
“You are a child of the Endless. You do not belong on the ground.”

“Do not touch me, Desire.”
The gentle older brother that had once adored them so so much, hissed at them, flinching as though their touch burned like acid.
“What? But— but you desire it!”
“No. I don’t.” Dream wrenched himself out of Desire’s embrace.
“Don’t try to hide your desires from me, Sweet Dream. You want hugs and touch, and comfort, and I’m offering it to you!”
“I don’t desire it from you. I don’t want you to touch me. I don’t want you to approach me. I don’t want you to even talk to me, lest the stars lose sanity again.”
"Sweet Dream, I–"
Dream strode away, letting his blades fade into shadows. "Do not call me Sweet Dream. You and your twin have eviscerated any sweetness I had in my heart for you."
"Dream, wait, please."
The sheer amount of desperation in their voice caused Dream to stop, if only for half a moment.
"We– I didn't mean for our games to– to go that far. I just wanted you–"
"They did."
