Okay, maybe it was a little masochistic to drag Steve goddamn Harrington to a metal-centric party. And maybe it was a little sadistic to shove Steve into a pile of metalheads– but– but! In Eddie’s defence, he wasn’t thinking.

(Eddie brings Steve to a metal afterparty. He doesn't love the attention Steve gets.)

"Close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades." - Frank Robinson

Eddie tells himself that coming back from the dead is a good thing. A gift, even. His second life is pretty good given where the first one ended. Sure, he's still hiding to keep from being hunted down while the government takes its dear sweet time clearing his name. Admittedly, he has lost just about everything he ever owned. And, okay, yes he does wake up screaming more often than not. There is also the teensy, tiny complication that his body miiiiight be, like, changing in awful, inexplicable ways, but the doctor insists that’s in his head, so maybe it’s not even a real problem…

Okay, fine. Eddie’s life is kind of a nightmare, but it’s not all bad. He has friends. He has Wayne. He has... whatever this thing is that he and Steve are dancing around. It’s close enough to being palatable that at first Eddie is determined to accept his life at face value. But there’s this saying, that close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades, and when Eddie stumbles his way into answers, the actual truth hurts far more than the one he'd feared.

    Summary

It’s 10:15 on a Sunday morning, and Steve is on Eddie Munson’s couch.

More specifically: Steve is on Eddie Munson’s couch, in his boxer shorts and a shirt that's clearly been slept in, eating dry cereal out of the box and blinking slowly at the TV, which is currently playing WWF. His hair is more of a mess than Dustin has ever seen it outside of literal fights to the death. Eddie himself is nowhere to be seen.

“What the hell are you doing here?” Dustin demands, dropping his backpack just inside the door.

    Summary

Steve was asleep at the counter.

    Again.

Robin placed another VHS precariously on the top of the pile surrounding him, making sure to adjust it so it wouldn’t fall. A copy of Secret Admirer had toppled down half a dozen boxes when she placed it without care earlier, and Steve had almost woken up just from the sound. She had worked her way through all of the romantic comedy returns and was halfway through the horrors already, and the pile was up to Steve’s waist.

Her working theory was that she would be able to get all the way through the action movies before Steve was completely covered in tapes.

Steve keeps falling asleep at work, and Robin is running out of creative ways to pass the time. She needs a solution, and Eddie Munson might be just the man for the plan

    Summary

Steve’s life is good. He’s managed to keep Dustin safe, coming up on six years of the two of them criss-crossing the Midwest, tracking down the monsters who are still slipping through the cracks between worlds, and ending them. And he’s got PK686766, who he met in an anonymous chatroom and whose emails are now kinda the highlight of his day. And who can maybe give him a little advice on what to do when a guy you thought was dead suddenly returns out of nowhere, and is now apparently set on blowing up your life.

Eddie’s life is fine. He’s alive, for one thing. Has gotten pretty good by now at his new gig, letting Uncle Sam point him like a cannon at extra-dimensional nasties and go “boom.” Sure, things are a little more complicated now that Steve Harrington has decided to be a massive bitch about Eddie’s attempts to stop his and Dustin’s homicidal amateur crusade against the forces of darkness. But he’s got the next message from Capt200Free waiting in his inbox, and a growing feeling that maybe he doesn't want this little anonymous pen pal situation to stay anonymous much longer.
