"A crown prince of his caliber wouldn't bend to you," Damien murmured, going to the boy; to look down on him at a closer range. The scent of the prince was pronounced when it met his nose, most likely lost on the rabble that had captured him. He smelled of forests and things quietly growing, of rainfall and the fruits of the earth. Leaning, he gloried in the way the boy trembled, the flash of his throat when he drew a tremulous breath. "He's been deprived of sunlight for some time, hasn't he?"
"It makes it easier to handle," the king replied. "We know very well what its type thrives on. We had to know in order to take it when we did. We weren't going to get another chance, not like that one."
Damien hummed. "So, you'd trade me a prince for a curse."
