Lupe, who’d been ready to fight someone since she saw that final scoreboard, was about to snap back when she spotted the cigarette in her hands, and the smear of red around where she’d been biting it. She reached up to rub at her lips and her thumb came away painted with lipstick.
“Oh,” Lupe answered, feeling a bit dumb all of a sudden. “Forgot I was wearing it.”
The Peaches lose their first game, and Lupe’s out of cigarettes, so she finds Jess McCready.
