After Hughie killed Translucent he decided to drink hard to forget the traumatic events, trying to forget everything, Butcher, Frenchie, and all the traumas of his pathetic life.
That same night, Homelander goes out as John and sees a handsome drunk boy throwing himself into his arms.
John has a questionable character and then they fuck, but this ends up being recurrent and Hughie, too oblivious, doesn't connect his dear John who fucks him so well and gets along so well with his miserable father with the cruel Supe that he and The Boys want to destroy.
Here we use the typical Superman magic. John in uniform: Oh, Homeland hii!! Out of uniform: Just John, Blonde and toned dilf.

The boy peeked under the cover and saw its long, black ears, reminiscent of a bat's. It was large and muscular, even covered up. It should have been over two meters tall. Richard closed his eyes and cowered against the monstrous figure as he listened to Slade's shouts, calling him away from the bat, but the words of his late father were clear in his mind; he couldn't let the man touch him.
Which would be the lesser evil? To let the dangerous man, Slade, whom his father spoke of in sheer desperation catch him or to let the monster, a batman devour him or take him away?

Did ya’ll know that Lex is supposed to be 21 at the start of the show and Clark was meant to be 14?
Kinda gives another perspective on why John might not have wanted Clark and Lex to be so close. Who would be okay with a grown man being so interested in their pre-teen?
Or
Lex didn’t know how old Clark was at first because he developed early given his alien genes. He struggles to see Clark for his age and eventually just says fuck it, I don’t care.
