It had been visceral, yes, but the way that a dream is visceral, scenes sliding into each other without transition. Inconsistencies, subtle at first, until they became impossible to ignore.

Hizashi could kiss him. Already, he’s feeling more awake, just after a few sips. And sure, he had already wanted to kiss Shouta, had wanted to ever since Shouta had thoroughly kicked his ass at their first year sports festival. He’d fallen very swiftly and very inadvisably in love, which he’d channeled into an aggressive pursuit of friendship and vowed never to speak of.
That doesn’t mean he can’t still be grateful, though. He doesn’t have time to dwell on it, not with Aoki probably already waiting, so he settles for throwing, “You’re the best, Shou, thanks!” over his shoulder on his way out the door.

Summary
Shoto tunes them all out and frowns down at his desk. Why does he want to be a hero? He supposes it’s a valid thought experiment for most of the class, but it’s never been a question for Shoto. It’s the entire reason for his existence. It’s not a question of why; it’s a certainty of the universe. The sky is blue, quirks exist, and Todoroki Shoto is going to be the number one hero. He’s perfectly aware of the danger, but that’s what training is for, and anyway, nothing he’s faced so far has been worse that his father at his most punitive. Hosu had been a difficult fight, but he’d been conscious at the end of it, which is more than he can say for some of Endeavor’s more intense training sessions.
