Sunday couldn’t focus. Strange. It was strange that his trained hyperfocus was broken for probably the first time in his life. When someone was talking to him or asking him a question, he could always answer with perfect poise. That was his perfect training. Right then, however, something - someone - had caught his eye, prickled his curiosity, and knocked the wind out of his lungs.
He clutched his beer bottle as his heart raced and fluttered in an unfamiliar way. He stared, as if hypnotized. And Sunday never stared at anyone. He was too “proper” for that. He felt the residual heat from a rush of blood traveling down his body. What was happening?

“Yeah, well.” Aventurine laughed briefly, helplessly, as the look in Ratio’s eyes shifted towards one of growing comprehension— and maybe even a bit of flabbergasted awe. “Even I have my limits, I guess. Don’t, ah… read too much into it.” As if that would keep Ratio from immediately formulating whatever theories he pleased.
Am I truly so precious to you? He could read the question in Ratio’s face. His bafflement. It was warranted, whatever questions Ratio might have of him. But he didn’t really want to talk right now.
Moaning, on the other hand… now that was on the table.

Summary
Jade was discussing Sunday’s newest mission within Aventurine’s earshot. Maybe it was on purpose. Who knew? Aventurine had trouble reading the woman, compared to the rest of the population. But of course Aventurine nonchalantly eavesdropped. He wanted to know what mission Jade had for his would-be executioner. It was nothing too complicated. Sunday was just supposed to visit one of the IPC’s clients and placate them, as they have become terribly annoying. Easy to do for Sunday with his stupid mind magic. But because of the distance, it would be an overnight trip that Jade could not join Sunday on, since she was busy with whatever other tasks. So, Jade briefed him before sending her charge on his first solo mission.
