Summary
Standing on the roof of the highrise building, Dazai smiled calmly at the group of men with their guns trained on him. The light of the floodlights washed over him, painting his face and bandages pale against the night, his dark hair and eyes shadows in the monochrome picture. Backed up against the edge of the building, there wasn't even a railing, nothing between him and the long drop through the dark, until that was all there was left.
But he showed no signs of concern. He simply smiled, and while that smile might generally be read as calm, or peaceful, on him, here, in the night, with the guns at his chest and the drop at his back, it made him look all the more unhinged. Who could look so content at the sign of their own death? Someone who saw no value in life. Someone who would be happy at death, whether it was his own or that of others. If he saw no value in living, what could he have to fear?
(Dazai falls off the roof of a building and Chuuya has to try and save him) -

'Your face would be all pallid and white, and your hair would be limp and your eyes would be dull and lifeless, and you'd look so dead. There'd be none of the humanity you have now left, it'd be all gone, and I'd see you drifting down the current of the river face up and I’d think-’'
'Are you high right now?'
'No, I got bored of drugs,' Dazai replied cheerfully. 'I tried them for a bit, and for a while they made me feel something, but ultimately it's all meaningless and there's no point.' -

Dazai finally turned around to face him, pale face reflected in the moonlight, eyes impossibly dark. He raised a gun to his chest. 'Goodbye.'
Chuuya took a step forwards in shock. 'Wait! Are you serious? You're not really going to?'
Dazai simply shrugged and grinned. 'I was, but now I've changed my mind.' For a moment Chuuya thought he'd reconsidered, but then he said, 'I've got a better idea. Here.'
Chuuya caught the gun tossed at him easily, and held it slack in his hand as he watched Dazai raise his arms. 'Well go on then. Kill me.'
'What the fuck? Are you kidding?'
'Don't tell me you haven't thought about it.'
'Of course I have.' There was no way he couldn't have.- Language:
