He looked at his brother in shock.William froze and stared fixedly into his cup, Louis had hit the nail so hard on the head, that it had metaphorically gone through the board...
- A lot have changed for the MI6 after 3 years, and Louis is trying his very best. But he may need more than time, to adjust to his brothers and the eccentric detective Sherlock Holmes returing into his life again.

William didn’t let it show, but that did take him by surprise—he thought he’d been doing a pretty decent job concealing that particular side of him.
“Oh, do I give it away that easily?” he responded without missing a beat. “My self-defense tutor would be disappointed—my brothers insisted we hire him after I was kidnapped some time ago. He always said the element of surprise was to be my best weapon.”
Sherlock smirked, probably seeing right through him.
“Clever man,” he conceded, but William knew he wasn’t talking about his “tutor”. He was forced to suppress yet another smile. Damn you, Holmes.
We didn't have enough sherliam interactions in canon that were just "I know you know I know you know, but I have to pretend that I don't know" so I'm here to add some more (this fic is pretty much just a love letter to the catch me if you can scene). But also, Milverton is going down—the same way but also differently.
What if Sherlock figured out what William's planning just a little earlier?

Milverton picked up a spoon, dipped it into the porridge, blew gently on the rising steam, then raised it with patient care, as though he were a devoted caretaker. He brought the spoon close to William's lips. This time, William parted his mouth slightly, whether from reflex of a weakened body or from yielding at last to Milverton's pressure.
The spoon entered, the warm porridge sliding over his tongue. Its taste was bland, nearly without memory. But William swallowed slowly all the same.
Milverton smiled with satisfaction at this rare moment of obedience.
"There, that's better. You see? Not so difficult."
William's body was gaunt, worsened after his critical state. His collarbones jutted sharp beneath his skin, his long fingers frail like dry twigs ready to snap. Now and then, a faint cough revealed that his lungs were failing under the cold air. They both knew that if William simply died, it would mean Milverton's defeat in controlling him.
