Squinting her eyes open, she felt a wave of dizziness overtake her. Her eyes couldn’t quite focus in the dark, but what little she could see was blurry, like several transparent images laid on top of each other, each slightly out of alignment. It was enough to make her stomach roil, the hot burning taste of bile hitting the back of her throat.
They hit a large bump in the road and Beth’s injured wrist hit the back of the driver’s seat, sending a shooting pain up her arm. It was only then she realised she was lying across the floor in the backseat. She must have made a noise, because a man’s voice from the front was saying, “You didn’t hit her hard enough; she’s waking up.”
