Summary
What Aventurine needs to do is add a personal stake. He has to become a part of the equation that the doctor can’t simply cancel away, someone who will inevitably suffer should he try. And what better way to do so than making himself the gift?
Ratio could refuse the silk jackets and bejewelled paperweights that Aventurine had so generously delivered to his office by post, but not Aventurine himself. To do so would be a rejection of their relationship, and Ratio is not cruel enough to do that. At one point in time, Aventurine would have thought so. But things are different now.
Or: Aventurine takes Ratio out on an excursion around Pier Point to spend time together, but it's not a date. Well, it's not supposed to be.

“Well, it can’t hurt for me to try again. Maybe one day you’ll finally tell me what we both know,” he croons, sauntering over to Ratio’s side and glancing him up and down. “Or maybe that day will be today?”
“...Just get it over with.”
“That’s not how you should treat a man about to confess to you,” Aventurine teases, but raises his hands in surrender when Ratio directs a glare at him. “Alright, alright. Veritas Ratio, my most dearly beloved, will you tell me that you love me too?”
The response is immediate. “No.”
“Ah well, it was worth a shot.” He laughs. ‘Let’s get you some coffee, shall we?”
Every day, Aventurine tries to get Ratio to confess his love for him. He refuses each time.

Amidst his pondering, a sharp voice cuts across his thoughts.
“I would not stand so close to the edge if I were you. It would be disappointing should you trip and plummet to your death out of recklessness.”
Aventurine heaves a laugh. What else would he be here for? Counting the number of passers-by in the street?
He turns to give a response, but the moment sunset-coloured irises meet his own the remark catches in his throat. The violet hair and gold laurel are unmistakable.
Aventurine falls, but Ratio catches him.

And, to make the sea of cotton slowly enveloping Sebek's mind spread like wildfire, Malleus squeezed his shoulder before pulling back, and said:
“Do take your time, nobody will steal him from you. You also have my blessing, although I suspect you should also gain his father's. I am after all only his brother.”
And with that, Malleus left.

Summary
Things with Sebek haven’t been quite the same since Malleus’ overblot. Or, more specifically, since his overblot had given them both a glimpse into Father’s dream.
It wasn’t that Sebek held Silver’s heritage against him. Far from it; Sebek was the one who’d saved Silver from sinking deeper into the abyss. Sebek had been the one who’d literally knocked sense into Silver, berating him tearfully for thinking he was unloved.
Don’t you dare insult me like that, Sebek had said.
