Cub steps forward, scratching his neck. That’s definitely a tell if Scar’s ever seen one. “Yeah, about that, Scar…”
Scar frowns into his coffee cup, the steam collecting around his face makes his cheeks damp with condensation. There's a foreboding presence in the space between them, choking out the light mood of the morning sun. There's nothing in the world that should warrant this kind of tension. It's Cub, after all.
“You have to model with Grian.”
Scar goes deathly still. “You signed me up for a photoshoot with.. Grian?”
Grian: his ex. His only ex. The guy that went and tore his heart out.
➴ Half a decade out of a degree in fabric styling and modeling, Scar's doing well for himself. He's built an agency from the ground up with his friends, earned the moniker HauteGuy from fans, and there is absolutely no sign of good looking ex-lovers. The world can't let dead things be.

Grian, on his knees under the hot midday sun, says nothing. His hands, shaking, are caked with sand and dirt. There’s sweat on the back of his neck, caught in the gold of his hair. The corpse, curled beside him in the sand, is colder than it has any right to be.

Weeks after Scar first dreams of the desert, he finds the mansion.
Mumbo’s there, too. Unsurprising, really. Mumbo’s always places he shouldn’t be, where you wouldn’t expect him to be. And always places you would expect him to be. Mumbo’s always places, really, in general – though it’s not usually his fault. Usually, it’s because he’s been dragged there by– by–

Summary
Grian kills Bdubs, and then comes after Scar with the fury of a man scorned. As he should. As is his right.
Scar does not begrudge him this. Scar kneels, waist deep in murky water, and bares his throat, and says, Kill me. And then he says, hot and desperate, We’ve won, Grian, we’ve won. Can’t we both win?
Grian, his head full of whispers, bares his teeth beneath the rising full moon, and says, No. He says, The ghosts demand a fight.
And Scar, on his knees, smiling, says, Who cares what they have to say? It’s just us here now.
And Grian – a fool, always a fool – listens to him.
(In which Scar and Grian decide to win 3rd Life together. This changes everything, and nothing at all.)

Summary
Grian has been many things.
A servant of a respected noble family. A survivor, with bruises on his skin and hidden wings tied down to his back. A rebel, sneaking away for a night of wonder in the heart of the kingdom - and a curiosity, gawked at by all as the King himself swept him into his arms and spent hours by his side.
When Scar spent days tracking Grian down and helping him escape the cruel grasp of the Watchers, Grian thought his life couldn’t surprise him anymore. Pledging his life to serve Scar was all he could do to thank his King.
Of course, being the personal servant of the King comes with its' own risks - and now Grian could add ‘hostage’ to his list of titles.
Or; someone decides kidnapping King Scar’s beloved servant was a good idea. It really wasn’t.
