Summary
The cold means little to a cultivator of Hanguang-jun’s caliber, who needs only to cycle a bit of qi to keep the chill of winter away as he walks the quiet paths of his home, his gaze trailing up to the sky, to the endless expanse of gray.
The chill of winter cannot reach Lan Wangji, but its memory dogs at his steps, nipping his heels as he treks the snow covered path to the Jingshi.
Lan Wangji loathes winter, hates being cold. It reminds him of the bone deep chill he endured as a child kneeling in the snow, waiting before a door that would never again open for him.
Lan Wangji reflects on his feelings of winter and the memories he associates with it. With his brother, he hopes he can learn to appreciate the winter for the warmth it brings him.

One of the men had broken away at some point during their conversation. He returns now, steps forward to set down a lone cup of tea down in front of him.
He doesn’t understand, until he does, when the steam caresses his gaunt face, carrying with it the sickeningly sweet aroma of the tea. Sweet like an omega’s scent in heat.
Oh, he realizes, weariness settling heavily over him.
“You are our sect leader, Zewu-jun, and you are in need of an heir. Would you deprive our sect of this?”
The elders of Gusu Lan have come to a decision. With the clan’s reputation in shambles, one heir missing, and their sect leader in seclusion, this can go on no longer.
Lan Xichen has been in seclusion for half a year when he receives an ultimatum.
