Summary

Being the enterprising young man that he is, he steals just enough money for a bus ticket and sneaks off into the coastal city where things have got to be better.
He’s free, and figuring out how to survive on his own. It’s a bumpy road, of course it is since it’s his first time on his own and he doesn’t have any documentation or marketable skills yet. Except that nonsensical biology crashes his plans and turns his life upside down.

“I’m going to check your scent real quick, okay?” The man was already peeling back one of the patches.
Mathias scrunched his nose as his own sour scent leaked out. He wore scent blockers all the time per regulation, only taking them off to put on a fresh set. His own scent was foreign and revolting to him. He couldn't imagine how it smelled to complete strangers.
The man’s mouth flattened into a thin line, and he looked back up at the woman as he smoothed the blocker back into place. “Omega.”
“Jesus,” the woman breathed.
The man stroked Mathias’s neck a few more times. There was something sad in his expression.
“I’m not an omega,” Mathias said hoarsely, finally able to pull away. “They don’t exist. That’s just an excuse for you to oppress half your population.”
