Paintbrush didn't pick up on Lightbulb's inherent sadness as they looked up at Lightbulb with a smile. "Thanks. I'm pretty happy with it," Paintbrush said before turning their head away, back into the textbook.
Lightbulb was perfectly content to leave the conversation there, vigorously angry and ready to type out the whole 2500 word essay right then and there. She paid no attention to Paintbrush, who was slowing down rather than speeding up.
Their next words were much quieter and hesitant.
"...Lightbulb?" Paintbrush asked. Their voice felt vulnerable, which was something that they never showed. Lightbulb felt a weird chill up her spine.
Despite how she wanted her voice to be warm, she couldn't let herself be vulnerable with Paintbrush- not again.
