It was so silly. Ilya knew that. It was so beyond silly. He just couldn’t shake the feeling of dread, the feeling of regret. He regretted not kissing him. He regrets letting his mind dictate his actions and deprive him from happiness.
“I should’ve kissed you, Hollander” Ilya muttered to himself, wiping the stray tears that fell from his eyes. Because now, he had to go back to Russia with the regret of not kissing him. God. He was so stupid.
His phone dinging and lighting up snapped him out of his trance, he figured it was one of his teammates. When he looked at his phone, a message from Jane popped up. He was surprised, almost speechless actually. It read “We didn’t even kiss,” it shocked Ilya the most. Was Shane feeling the same way? Did Shane have this burning hole that felt like he was being eaten alive too?

So when he typed out on his phone “we didn’t even kiss” with tears rolling down his cheeks, he just wanted to type it. He just wanted to feel it— to feel the pain he had inside of him. That maybe typing it would help let it out, he would type it and the feeling would go away.
And the stupid fucking elevator still wasn’t here, and he was forced to sit there and wallow in his sadness. He should’ve thought this through, his hands were still shaking and as he went to delete the text. His clumsy thumb accidentally hit the send button.

“Ilya,” Shane says warningly, but he’s too late as the grin unfurls across Ilya’s face. “I said no laughing,” he snaps, glaring at him. “You’re laughing.”
Ilya shakes his head. “Is not at you, sweetheart,” he says, unable and unwilling to stop his beaming. “I am just—happy. To share this with you.” He meets Shane’s eyes. “You are—singularity,” he says, careful with his pronunciation. “My favorite.”
Shane goes red so fast, Ilya worries about his heart for a second.
“I just want to know you,” Shane murmurs, closing his eyes when Ilya lifts his hand up and strokes through his hair. “I miss you when you aren't around, and I want to carry the little bits of you I can.”

Ilya Rozanov and Shane Hollander have hated each other for three seasons. kind of hate where Ilya hit Shane into the boards so hard his ears rang for a week, and where Shane's smile after blocking Ilya's game-winning shot was the most devastating fuck you either had witnessed.
So when Ilya shows up at Shane’s apartment at 2am on a Tuesday, barely standing, blood dried at his hairline and his hands shaking so badly he can barely knock, Shane doesn’t understand what to do at first, or why Ilya is here, of all places.
He opens the door.
Ilya has a split lip, bruises turning dark across his cheekbone, His eyes are hollow in a way Shane’s never seen them before. He tries so hard to hold himself together, there’s something about seeing him like this. Ilya, who’s never been anything but sharp, mean and untouchable, that makes Shane’s chest feel like it’s ready to cave in.
“Jesus Christ” Shane breathes. “Ilya-”
“Didn’t know where else to go.” Ilya’s accent is thicker when he’s barely holding on, all his carefully practiced English slipping. He won’t look at Shane. “I-sorry. This was stupid. I’ll-”
