Summary
Rook never believed in happy endings—especially not for heroes. Thrust into leadership of the Veilguard, he finds himself navigating impossible battles, ancient gods, and a mission to stop Solas, the Dread Wolf, from unmaking the world. Through it all, Varric Tethras is a constant presence—steady, charming, and infuriatingly insightful. But as the fight drags on and the weight of leadership grows heavier, Rook begins to realize that the connection he feels to Varric isn’t as simple as friendship. In the ever-shifting landscapes of the Fade, where nothing is as it seems, Rook must confront not only the dangers ahead but the feelings he can no longer deny.

"Can I buy you a drink?"
Oh Jesus. Roman had expected that maybe the silence meant he was being ignored, but no. The man was staring at him with piercing brown eyes that, if Roman was any kind of people reader, were not impressed. This caused Roman to do what his best friend, Roland, had liked to call massive overcompensation.
"Or a meal. I don't really know what the standard is around here for showing interest, but from where I'm from, it's customary to offer food or drink in exchange for...your time." Roman trailed off because his description was not doing him any favors. He really meant that it was a part of dating, showing interested in someone...but when you actually take a moment to describe it, like he did, it was really similar to prostitution. Too similar.

However, he learns that he had been brought to Thedas several weeks before the events of the Conclave: weeks before the events of Inquisition take place.
With the knowledge that he holds, he can either roll along and play things safe, or use what he knows to change things for the better. However, things are much easier said than done - especially in a world like Thedas.

“I have… not seen many shemlen before now.”
He looks around at the three of them: the spymaster, poised and perceptive, the diplomat with her clipboard and coiffed smile, and the military leader, large frame paused in a warrior’s rest.
“Well, you’ve certainly gotten a decent amount of exposure by now.” Josephine’s smile meets her eyes sweetly. “What do you think?”
They are strange. Loud. Frank. Earnest. Saven eyes the warrior’s hulking mantle. “You are large.”

Solas knew very little about the woman who bore his mark except she was a beautiful and compelling mystery.
The green glow lit the small cell. The magic on her hand never fully subsided, but when it spit green fire the woman grew restless. He felt a connection to her that the presence of the mark did not explain. Solas almost did not want her to wake up.
The moment he interacted with her, she was bound to disappoint, failing to live up to any of his imaginings. As if to mock this sentiment, the elf stirred. She opened her eyes to reveal bright green eyes. Solas caught his breath, transfixed.
She said accusingly, “Is this another trick? You think I can't escape from your prison, Solas?”
The breath froze in his chest and everything stopped.
She knew him.
Solas had no memory of her.

Both Rook and Solas travel back in time to the begining of the Inquisition. From the beginning, Solas senses a bond linking him to Rook. This changes everything. Not a strict retelling.
Heavy emphasis on Rook and Solas's relationship. Anyone else notice the tension between Cassandra and Varric?
Expect plenty of party banter as well.
