"Lan Zhan!" shouts Wei Ying across the crowded room, across a sea of suits and dresses and glittering accessories, beneath twinkling lights festooned among draped fabric and above the hotel function room bar he's currently leaning sideways over as he waves with both energetic hands. "Lan Zhan! What do you want to drink?"
Wei Ying is not wearing a suit. Wei Ying, for some reason, is still wearing his exhibition skate costume with the mesh cutout strips up the sides of his legs and body and the gold glitter in a glowing streak across his cheekbones that catches the light and sends it sparkling into his dark eyes – and he's clearly done nothing more than remove his skates in the hours since the gala, because his hair still falls loose and windswept down almost to his waist exactly as it had tumbled out from his dramatically released ponytail halfway through the performance.
"What do you want to drink??" Wei Ying shouts again, because Lan Zhan's been staring at him instead of answering.

No-one (except Wei Ying, who acts as though he's legally obligated to, and Lan Zhan, who doesn't like him), would deny that Jiang Cheng is attractive. Wen Qing doesn't usually think of herself as someone with a weakness to these things – but there's something about the sharpness of his jawline and high cheekbones, the loose sweat-curled strands of hair that escape the almost-neat bun gathered at the back of his head, the defined set of his shoulders as tight fabric outlines curving muscle Wen Qing actually just wants to grab onto and dig her nails in to keep herself steady as he –
– yeah, okay, this time maybe she has just a little bit of a weakness to it.
It's not just that, though. Wen Qing wishes it was just that, because that would be much easier to deal with.
The trouble with a Wei Ying POV fic is that actually, quite a lot goes on in the background while he's busy almost dying.

Lan Zhan, ice-chilled and sweat-flushed and – still in his skates, and as much as Wei Ying wishes he was too he can't deny the height difference is a little bit fucking hot – kicks open a temporary-looking door beside him Wei Ying hadn't even realised was there and pulls them both through it. It's not even a real room – just some kind of storage, probably stuff that had to be moved to accommodate the competition, and Wei Ying doesn't even care enough to register anything beyond that because he's the one pinned to the wall now and being kissed until he barely knows his own name, and Lan Zhan –
– Lan Zhan's hands are on him, and there's cool air against his skin, and he forgets entirely how to think at all because he doesn't need to think when it's like this.

Lan Zhan stares at him even more unreadably than before.
Then he says, cold and aloof, "Nothing occurs without a first time."

Her waist is warm under the tight fabric of the leotard – under Lan Zhan's hands – and all at once Lan Zhan wants to know what it would feel like without –

Lan Zhan tugged hard on the blue line that bound them together, and Wei Wuxian all but flew across the room, crashing into the bed with a pained groan and sinking to his knees on the floor. He supposed, slightly hysterically, that this must be something like what Jiang Cheng had felt when he had hit Wei Wuxian with all the force of a biting insect the day after his rescue.
