Apart from… tonight there had been a guy. Much younger than the typical age range, though he had a bit of grey in his hair from what I could see across the hall. He was chatting with a woman I initially assumed he was with until she came up and introduced herself as the mother of one of my students alone. Not that I was watching the guy! But I was bored, and the night was passing slowly, and again, there weren’t many young, attractive guys around here.
When I glanced over to him again, and made eye contact, I jerked my head back down to my spreadsheet so fast it made the mother I was speaking to turn around to see what I was looking at. A blush spread across my face.
I wondered what his deal was. If he was doing parents' evening in lieu of his “girlboss” wife who kept him at home as a trophy husband; or maybe he was a divorcee who was so estranged from his ex that they couldn’t be in the same place at the same time.
