Then things changed.
Now, he has a family that cares about him, that loves him, and that’s all he could ask for.
It’s more than he deserves.

“Have you considered the possibility that Neil has chosen you, but believes you have not chosen him?” Renee says. "Have you ever explicitly told him what you want?”
“Neil knows what I want,” Andrew snaps. This is not Andrew’s fault.
“How do you know?”
Because Neil always knows. He is as fluent in Andrew’s micro-expressions as he is in German and French. He knows which head tilts mean “go on” and which ones mean “shut up.” Without ever asking, he learned what it meant to see Andrew wearing double layers of long sleeves, or taking multiple showers in a day, and learned to hand Andrew the car keys.
That has always been the most terrifying thing about Neil — his patience to wait, watch, listen, learn. The prospect that if Neil were given enough time, there would be no part of Andrew that was just Andrew’s anymore.
“He has to know,” Andrew says.
“Does he?” Renee says. “Have you ever known Neil to assume that he is wanted?”
Five times Neil tells someone that he and Andrew aren’t dating, and one time Andrew uses his words to set the record straight.

"Jeremy, what are you talking about? We are having entirely separate conversations.” Something fearful clings to the man’s words, but determination flashes on his features as he straightens up. “I’m worried your concussion is worse than any of us thought. Slow down, please?”
Concussion? Jeremy squints at him. “I don’t have a concussion,” he says suspiciously, head throbbing inconveniently as if to dispute the very idea.
Gray eyes blink in confusion. Good. At least Jeremy’s not alone in his perplexity. “Yes, you do.”
“I think I’d remember that.”
The man swears in French before saying, “I think the problem here is that you do not, obviously. We need to go to the hospital.”
When Jeremy loses over a decade of memory overnight, Jean's entire universe threatens to collapse.

“Yep. It’s only for a few weeks until Mom simmers down.” Jeremy says, and tries to mean it.
Laila raises a disbelieving eyebrow at him, seemingly content to wait him out.
“I’m serious, Lai. I’ll take the test, then I’ll be back.”

Jeremy is called back to the Wilshires' to study before taking the LSAT. Things go as well as you'd expect [read: terribly], until they get Very Very Bad, and resolve with love confessions of the highest order.
