The floor is a crumble of broken black and white. The sky shakes and collapses on itself, multicolored fire burning it down, down, down, falling all around her.
A small white creature sits in front of her. Its eyes are red. They don’t blink.
Skyscrapers crash and the world screams along with the girl in the sky- glossy black hair tangled and bloody, clothes torn and singed, skin bruised and spurting red, she falls.
And falls, and falls.Madoka keeps expecting her wings to flash open, to catch herself, to at least slow her mad descent towards the crumbling earth. She doesn’t. That’s when Madoka realizes it.
She doesn’t have any wings.She looks down at the white creature, tears springing to her eyes- heart aching, bleeding, tearing, for this girl- falling all alone.
“Doesn’t- doesn’t she have anybody? Does no one love her?” Madoka cries, suddenly feeling sick, feeling so horrid and awful and stupid, because there’s something wrong, wrong, wrong- because that girl does have someone, she has-

Madoka shifts one gloved hand upwards to wipe at her eye. “Of course I am,” she whispers. “I’m sad.”

The first time Akemi Homura meets Kaname Madoka, it feels as if time stops with the way colors burst forth in her vision, assaulting her senses with an experience she never could've fathomed. A month later Akemi Homura sells her soul in a grayscale world that was full of life and color just minutes before.
The second time Akemi Homura meets Kaname Madoka, she runs up and promises to help Madoka, even as her eyes strain with getting used to color again. Her eyes only get a month to appreciate the feeling before her vision bleeds back to grayscale.
The third time, Akemi Homura is less excitable, more reserved. Her colors fade a month later as she pulls the trigger.
On the ninth loop, Akemi Homura wakes up to see her hospital room bathed in color and a tattoo on her wrist.
