There’s a heavy, dragging sort of shuffle in the hallway.

More shuffling. A bump. Oh, what fresh hell…?
“...will you be exploring more of your own layer of the story in the sequel?”
The door to the parlour opens, and Armand comes in, absolutely smeared with blood and dragging a dead body.
“Uhhh… uh, um, there— there was a glitch, can you repeat that last bit?”
Armand drags the body right to the centre of the room, then straightens up, shaking that ridiculously beautiful hair off his face. “Just for a moment,” he half-says, half-mouths behind Daniel’s laptop. “Don’t mind me.”
“...if you’re going to more prominently feature the fourth layer of the story — that is, your own — in the sequel.”
For a second, Daniel wonders what he’s done in his life to deserve this, but then his brain helpfully unfurls a laundry list at least six miles long.
Or: doing interviews from home is difficult when one has an Armand.

“That a vampire thing?” he drawls. “Brooding all over yourself while staring at a painting that’s so on-the-nose symbolic of your past that it’s borderline offensive to the audience?”
Armand chuckles, coming up behind him, and wraps his arms around Daniel’s waist, hooks his chin over Daniel’s shoulder.
“That depends,” he says, peering at the painting with him. “Which part of your past are you brooding about?”
Or: Daniel and Armand tour three art locations, meet up with two old friends, and share one braincell.

“Hey, man, you need a ride?”
A kid, in his 20s. Black tousled curls, green eyes. His cheeks are round, some baby fat still clinging to him, but it’s offset by the strong line of his jaw and a square chin. Frank’s knife aches in his pocket; he wants to flick it open, press the tip of it into those cheeks, first one, then the other. Watch the flesh dip, then split and part for the blade. He wants to carve that face.
“I’m headed for Nevada,” he says. “Any bit could help.”
“Hey, it’s your lucky day!” the kid says with a broad grin that stretches his plush cupid lips really far. “Hop in!”
Frank climbs into the back seat, slips off his backpack.
“Thank you boys so much,” he says, extends a hand. “My name’s Frank.”
The kid on the passenger side shakes it, easy and firm.
“I’m Daniel, this is Armand.”
Or: it's 1979, two maniacs are in love, and serial killers make for good lunch.
