    “Right.” She met his eyes. “Would you like to tell me what happened?”

    He shifted on the table, the paper crinkling below him. “I was hit in the line of duty,” he said. While true, it didn’t give her anything she didn’t already know. She blinked at him, likely thinking the exact same thing. He shifted again.
    “The spell hit me…somewhere vital.” He blushed at having described it as such – it wasn’t his heart or his lungs or brain, for Salazar’s sake – but she was nodding easily so he barreled on. “And the effect is quite uncomfortable.”

    Her lips pressed together at that but her flash of amusement vanished as she gave a nod. “I’m sure it is."
