Summary
He gets up and walks towards the window, opening his curtains, because taps on windows no longer scare him.
He feels he should’ve expected to see Mike Wheeler standing outside the glass. He feels like he should’ve expected it, and yet he hadn’t.
They’ve snuck through each other’s windows before. But it still feels different, odd and unexpected. And he’s scared. It’s true, taps on windows no longer scare him. But Mike Wheeler? Mike Wheeler scares him like no other.
Title inspired by Mazzy Star's "Into Dust"

Summary
The very last thing James had been expecting to see that night was Regulus Black at his doorstep. He is a ghost under the porchlight, a steady stream of rainwater sliding down his pale skin.
A fresh bruise is beginning to purple at his jaw, and there’s a gash on his forehead. It is raw and bleeding and the rainwater turns a murky red as it slips down the left side of his face. There are no tears in his eyes, but James doesn’t need to see tears to see the sorrow. Sadness has always seemed to accompany Regulus—it hugs him like an old friend.
When the ghost speaks, it’s a whisper, “I didn’t know where else to go.” And that’s all he needs to say, really.

Summary
The Byers’ new house is closer to Mike’s.
This is a Development.
Mike sees Will on the weekends. Mike sees Will on occasional school nights. Mike sees Will like he’s living with them again, stuffed into Mike’s back pocket, comfortably, reliably close.
Turns out, this is a problem.
.

Summary
Today, though, is different, because today, Will is feeling incredibly grateful to have this job. All of a sudden he doesn't mind the sweeping and the dusting and the restocking shelves with books that, quite frankly, aren't to his own taste in any way whatsoever, aside from the tiny comic book section tucked away in the darkest part of the store. He's grateful for the silence and the boredom and the wasting his phone battery scrolling through the Instagram accounts of people he doesn't know or care about.
Because the thing is, if Will didn't have this job, he would have never had the opportunity to lay eyes on the very attractive guy that just walked in, and that, in and of itself, is enough to make him feel, vaguely, like his entire life is complete.

Summary
“I used to crawl backwards when I was a baby,” he says, and Mike opens his eyes, staring back at the older teen with blurry eyes.
“What?”
“I,” Steve says, a smile tugging at his lips, “used to crawl backwards as a baby.”
He’s being dead serious right now.
Or:
It's the beginning of the end of the world, and Mike Wheeler is having an... interesting week, to say the least.

Summary
It's not even like Will is some godlike specimen. His skin is olivey and a bit summer-tan, and he has floppy, honey-brown hair and a few moles smattered adorably across his face and arms, but he is very much just a boy. Average height, average build, symmetrical face. He's wearing jeans and a Zelda T-shirt and plain white Vans. But he gives Mike an awkward half-smile and a wave as he introduces himself at the box office, and Mike can actually feel himself get stupider.
Will and Mike meet working at their local movie theater, and Mike is so into Will — particularly his hands — that he almost gets fired.

Summary
“Woah,” Will whispers to himself incredulously, laughing a little under his breath as he shuffles through the pages of the letter again. He can’t help but admire the smooth, off-white stationery, its pleasant weight in his hands. A serious-looking “MJW” watermark adorns the top of each page, totally at odds with the entertaining missive and its author’s garbled cursive. Will laughs quietly to himself again. What sixteen-year-old boy on earth has monogrammed stationery?
Michael J. Wheeler, apparently. Where did Max find this guy?
Mike Wheeler is insecure, even by normal teenage standards. So when his friend, Max, connects him with her old friend from California, he's surprised by how easily they get along. But as the weeks wear on, their letters grow increasingly personal, and they make plans to embark on a week-long trip, Mike can't let go of one inconvenient, anxiety-inducing thought: What if he wants to be more than friends?
