Jisung stayed curled at the end of the couch, hunched into the same ratty hoodie he’d worn for days. “There’s nothing to say,” he muttered, flat, distant.
“There’s always something to say,” Minho replied gently this time, like he was afraid of scaring him further away.
Jisung’s mouth twisted before the bitterness could be swallowed down. He pushed up off the couch, chest tightening, eyes hot. “Yeah?” he snapped, voice raw. “Like what? That I wake up every day and wish I wasn’t still here? That no matter how hard you try, you can’t fix me and I’m dragging you down with me?”
Minho didn’t react right away. He didn’t raise his voice, but his expression faltered—just a flicker of something cracking behind his eyes. “You don’t have to be fixed.”
“But I do. ” Jisung’s voice cracked on the words. His hands shook, knotted into the too-long sleeves of his hoodie. “You say that like this isn’t killing you too. Like it’s fine that I’m not the person you fell in love with anymore.”
or: jisung falls inward—slow, ache-limned, quiet—and minho, with both arms, learns to cradle what remains. they move forward, or backward, or somewhere in between.

“What the—” Jeongin turned back to Hyunjin, pointing at the retreating figure like he’d just seen a ghost. “Did you tell him?”
Hyunjin had already ducked behind him, hiding the bottom half of his face behind his scarf. “I didn’t! I swear!” he exclaimed, “He must’ve heard it from someone else, maybe one of your classmates... or the barista!”
“How would the barista even-" Jeongin paused, dragging a hand down his face. "Do you know many people have said it to me today?”
Hyunjin rocked on his heels. “I stopped counting after eight.”
“That was before noon.”

Summary
He imagines what Jeongin's DMs with the model might look like: a string of sent messages without a single response in sight, foolish hope feeding his fanboy streak. Typing sweet words like so proud of you! You're doing great! while Hwang clinks champagne glasses with Dua Lipa on a yacht and then sunbathes on remote, private beaches. Surely, he must know that's how it is. Surely, he must also be feigning ignorance for his own sake.
What does Jeongin's boyfriend think about this obsession, anyway? Jisung would cry himself to sleep every night if his partner routinely told his followers that someone other than him is the prettiest man in the world. Maybe he's not as active online…?
Jisung and Jeongin meet in college, where they quickly develop a strong friendship. One day, Jisung finds out Jeongin has a boyfriend he knows nothing about and immediately sets to do some research. How is he supposed to get the info when all Jeongin talks about is his favorite model, Hwang Hyunjin?

Well, I figured the next time I'd see your face, it would be on a headstone, Jeongin thinks.
Or: In a world where people are born with the ability to see a countdown over other's heads leading up to uniquely different things, Jeongin struggles to live with the knowledge his own brings him. Somehow, Hyunjin makes it simultaneously easier and harder to deal with.
