She tilted her head at him, something odd and fond in her eyes. So different from the venomous rage she’d started with. “I believe you. Now c’mon, let’s go make nice with our new friends.”

She’d been so concerned about the logistics of it that she hadn’t even considered Orochi’s feelings about the whole thing. He’d been left behind by his only family. It had been five years of sitting vigil at his parents’ grave alone every New Year; five harvests where Orochi had automatically taken a share of eggplants because they were Kuchinawa’s favorite, only to leave them in Sheena’s kitchen because Orochi didn’t like them.
Orochi was a forgiving man. He’d forgiven her after all. But Kuchinawa was even more personal. Maybe this was his line.
“...Would you want him to come back?” she asked quietly.
“He’s had his chances.”

In his hands was the letter from Kamela inviting him and his father. Singular. She probably meant Dirk, but Lloyd was perfectly ready to be sweetly obtuse about it if anyone made a fuss about it because of course he was going to bring both fathers.
The letter also mentioned that his aunt would be there with her wife, that they were traveling up from Izlood after leaving Palmacosta.

Summary
I reach out and clasp his hand. It's his left, and there are no raised ridges dug into his skin where my atmosphere had once burned him. His hand is ice cold, just as I expected, and I've missed it. I've missed, missed, missed this skin and its press against the xenonite that had once permanently divided us, and I marvel at being able to truly feel Grace's fingers wrapped around mine. I can hear him even better now that we're touching, every gross, leaky bodily function sloshing around in that fragile body of his, pulsing in waves from the point where we are connected, and it's wonderful. I never want to let go.
I belatedly realize that usually, introductions go both ways. I may know Grace, but Grace doesn't know me; I push the thought away. "I'm Rocky."
(You gave me that name. Do you remember?)
"Rocky," he repeats, "like the movies?"
(You're the one who showed me those movies. Do you remember?)
"No, like the rocks," I say, because it's a stupid thing to say but if I say it seriously enough, Grace will laugh.

The engineer takes my hand. His skin runs hot. Very hot. He doesn't let go at what I would gauge as a socially-acceptable handshake time interval. Are we just holding hands in the middle of the lab-workshop space? Guess we are.
"I'm Rocky," he finally introduces himself. He has a hint of an accent, something lilting, melodic. I can't really place it.
"Rocky," I repeat, slowly. "Like the movies?"
