Summary
They are told only untainted love can elevate them to the Purelands, out of this hell; but love can never end well, Robert's sure of that. If watching it destroy his family wasn't enough proof, he himself has been the downfall of countless others. As a lure, he can take the form of a person's deepest desires, make them fall in love, use it to destroy them. He does what he has to, to survive in this city, with the powers he's been given; he's never understood the weakness of those who fall, who give in to that person they can't stay away from, jeopardise themselves.
Out in the backlands, trying to survive the repressive regime, Aaron knows he just needs to keep his head down, keep working and keep himself safe so he can be there to protect his sister. He knows he must ignore the hunger for love that keeps growing inside him or he'll risk everything; and ignore it is exactly what he intends to keep doing.
When Robert is sent back to his childhood village with the intention of condemning another unsuspecting soul, will either of them be able to do what they know they must to survive?

AUTHOR’s NOTE: This story started off in my head as a dubious consent one-shot with Marius that I began writing some lead-up plot for, but now the story is going in a very different tonal direction than what it originally was intended to be. It’s much more focused on the pining between Daniel and Armand. I want to explore that properly, so I’m going to put this on hiatus and flesh out the rest before I resume posting. Will probably publish the already written one-shot separately. Thanks for your patience!
