Does she not give off enough of a ‘I’m too gay for this’ vibe? What does she have to do, deck herself out in rainbows and shades of pink and orange? Not that such a display would deter a man like this; with his coiffed hair and five o’clock shadow. He leans against the bar with an easy smile and roaming eyes. What bothers Caitlyn the most is that he’s blocking her view of the TV.
This is a playoff game.
A man did not make her miss baseball.

And if this had happened even a week ago, Vi wouldn’t have given the matter a second thought before knocking this girl’s lights out and running away with Powder. Wouldn’t have considered another option for longer than maybe two seconds—just enough to rub it in her new friend’s pretty face, right before leaving her to the whims of the woods—before all bets were off. Powder is her priority—always has been, and always will be—and now more than ever, she has a responsibility to uphold.
But—if Vi’s being honest, Caitlyn has proven herself to be an excellent shot. One who has kind of saved Vi’s ass twice in the last week since they’d met.
So maybe there’s a smidge of room left to readjust her priorities.
“That bite is two months old,” Vi says.
Six years into the cordyceps outbreak, and three weeks away from curing it, Vi and Powder run into a FEDRA enforcer.

“Oh!” Caitlyn exclaims. Her left hand moves to her face and her fingertips just brush the bottom edge of the new eye patch. “That… I passed by the doctor’s office on my way home. I was all ready to leave the medical patch and start wearing this one from now on.”
Maybe there’s no need to overthink it at all, just…
“It looks hot,” Vi says, plain and simple.
