The room was a bloodbath— tiles slick, droplets spattering the walls and cabinet, hands red to the elbows. but Joel’s body, so inert, so silent, somehow radiated serenity. Even as the blood pulsed from the wound, soaking the bathroom into a viscous sea, Joel’s stillness carried a strange, eerie peace, as if the world outside the haze, outside the blood, had finally quieted.
“Lizzie, please! Just call! I’ve got him!” Etho yelled again, voice ragged with panic and exhaustion. “Just tell them he’s hit his head and is unconscious. That’s it!”
The handle rattled again, and Etho snapped, “DON’T OPEN IT!”

“Yet again,” and the Villain sounded downright delighted now, “perhaps the agency would be better off with such a villainous wannabe-hero like you dead.”
