Maybe he could laugh off the way he wanted to lean forward and rest his forehead on Billy's chest, go to sleep while listening to his heartbeat. Maybe it would still be the same, the same friendship, the same platonic relations, with occasional yearning stares, the way he watched Billy sleep like he was a piece of art in that very moment, even with his imperfections, even with his flaws, with the countless scars on his face and chin, and the lash that stupidly stuck to his cheek some time ago, and how he sometimes talked gibberish in his sleep.
But there was nothing confirming it was a joke, and that's why Stu's heart sank.
