Right now is not a time to think about home life. He was a dancer right now! He didn't have time to worry about his brothers coming back from college to visit, or that his mother's death anniversary was coming up, or how Phil never seemed to be home anymore. He couldn't think that right now or he would mess up. Tommy was a dancer he couldn't mess up.

when Kristan dies his family takes it pretty hard and to cope they decide that it's Tommy's fault and to blame him.
His family decides to not even acknowledge the blonde and instead treat him as if he is a stranger and completely ignore him. When Techno and Wilbur move away for college Tommy is left by himself with his father, someone who hadn't even had a conversation with Tommy for years. They both decide to ignore each other. Phil decides to surround himself with his work. Tommy focuses on his dancing career without his father's knowledge.
when Techno and Wilbur come home from college and notice how Tommy isn't the same kid he was when they left him all those years ago so they decide to do some investigating and realize maybe Tommy wasn't the problem. maybe it was themselves.
