    "Nick," the woman says. She looks at him, right at him, with an eerie calm that sends shivers down his spine. "Do you think you and Charlie are soulmates?"

    "Well, you just said—"

    "It doesn't matter what I said. Do you believe, deep down, in your heart of hearts, that you two are meant to be? That you two would find each other in any universe?"

    Nick is positive that he'll wake up tomorrow and scoff at the things his brain comes up with when he's tired, heartbroken, and running on fumes and vodka lemonades. He knows all of this means nothing, and the woman in front of him isn't real, and this party isn't real, and none of this is real, and Nick is living in a nightmare. He knows he'll wake up soon.

    Still, might as well tell the truth.

    "Obviously. Yes."

    The woman smiles. "Good. Then prove it."

    Or, it's been minutes since Nick and Charlie broke up, and Nick is already desperate enough to use interdimensional time-traveling to fix it. Featuring alternate universes, angst, fluff, a quick stint as enemies-to-lovers, flower shops, Ferris wheels, and a touch of magic.

    Charlie could easily just giggle and let himself be content in their joint discomfort. He could embrace the awkward silence that would surely follow, use it to change the subject completely and ask if Nick wanted to cuddle and watch a movie or play Mario Kart.

    Charlie could easily escape this moment. But Nick's admission had made his body feel hot all over, his chest and groin and toes tingling with warmth, and he found that he didn’t want to escape this euphoric, life-changing moment; he wanted to surround and drown himself in it. Nick's words made him feel wanted, desired; and feeling desired made him feel bold and powerful in a way he had never experienced.
