Summary
Three peoples awoke by a lake; several generations later their descendants tell themselves a story of continuity and change. Canon divergence, but the question of when the divergence happens is left as an exercise for the reader.

Summary
When at last the work was done, she wound it with a key of silver for hours and set it to play. As the dancing girls spun – the one with ink-dark eyes that burned with power, the one with silver slippers and tresses of gold, the one with stars embroidered on the veil that covered her white hair – she wept freely. Then Nerdanel took the key from her neck, and wound it again. Her fingers trembled, in hope and terror. As she reached the end, she met resistance, and, thumb pushing up and index finger pulling down, she twisted once more, a half turn.
And the world around her broke apart.
--
Nerdanel sacrifices what she must to see her family happy.

"Gather your strength, Daeron. I will get you to the Ford of Bruinen.”
“Will you swear it, kinslayer?” Daeron asked, voice heavy with irony and with something else Maglor couldn’t quite identify.
He paused for a moment. Then he said, “Yes.”Bookmarked by graellsia

Summary
Silvergifting co-ruling Mordor for fun and aesthetics.
Celebrimbor finds out Annatar is Tar-Mairon - the ruler of Mordor - but not that he's Sauron, and then they play commitment chicken about it. Be a decent person by my standards or I'm breaking up with you. Marry me or I won't be a decent person by your standards. Promise me you won't go to war with my friends and family or I won't marry you. etc etc etc.
Both of them are at least half expecting the other to back out, because this is an insane person thing to do on both their parts, but because of that expectation, neither one does the backing out himself.

Summary
It was a familiar scene, all of them gathered around a convalescent Maedhros; Celegorm paced the length of the small tent, all his terror turned to hard fury at the base of his throat:
“We could have their heads for this,” he growled. “We should have their heads for this. They tried to kill the king!”
[Or: Just when Maedhros is about to surrender the crown, an unlikely trio of conspirators attempt to assassinate him. His brothers . . . take care of it.]

Summary
It might have been a short story, a simple one. Two princesses: one dark, one light. A noble knight, pure of heart. Love requited, love spurned. A prophecy. A curse.
But only young rivers run straight. Told enough times, a tale wears at its boundaries, begins to twist and bow and braid…
