Summary
Three years isn’t a long time in the grand scheme of things. Those early days flew by. Military life kept him busy, with little time to think about the way he and Jisung had left things. The awkward silence and unshed tears. The way they both held themselves together, only to fall apart the moment the apartment door closed.
During his enlistment, before Jisung started his own, they called several times. Met up for dinner when time permitted. He was able to pretend that things weren’t all that different from when they were parted due to their work schedules. Made the separation much easier to bear. It wasn’t until he was back in the empty apartment, alone, that it truly hit him. His duffle bag hit the floor with a dull thud, echoing through the place they once shared. The first of many instances where the walls felt too wide, the rooms too vast, the apartment lonely.
The day he came home he set a reminder on his phone. It felt like a lifetime away the first few times he looked at it, but now it was only a few hours before his phone would come to life with a notification saying ‘Jisung 🏠 💕’.
