    Summary

"Bruce?" he said, voice hoarse and cracking. "Bruce, what—what's happening?" His throat worked. He tried again to move his arms, himself, and failed; again the chains rattled. His gaze flickered away from Bruce, and found the nearest of the open containers that surrounded him: not large, not many, but the mouth of each crate glowed steadily green. "What are you doing? Did I—what did I—" He stopped, squeezing his eyes shut, sucking in an uneven breath. "I don't remember—"

An unsurprising and uninventive tactic. But then Bruce supposed he should've expected as much. "Let go of him," he said, without inflection.

    Summary

There isn't anything unusual about the day Bruce dies.

Clark wishes there had been. He wishes he'd known it was coming; he wishes he'd been ready and waiting to stop it before it happened at all.

But having the chance to fix it after the fact is the next-best thing. He'll take it.

    Summary

Bruce and Clark, forgetting, never having known, pretending to forget, being reminded, remembering, learning—and, eventually, figuring some things out.

Or: six times Bruce and Clark did and didn't know, did and didn't remember, in various ways; plus the time all that added up to something new. (Written for Superbat Week 2025.)

    Summary

"Calm down, buddy. It was a bad scene for a while, but everything's cool now. How's the skipper?"

Jake squeezed the radio tight, tight. His hand was sweating, shaking a little, and he was irrationally worried he was going to drop the damn thing and wouldn't be able to find it again. "He's with me," he managed. "Man, listen up. Tell me where you are."

Nothing, for a handful of seconds that felt like a long time, like about the longest time Jake had ever had to wait for anything.

But then the radio came to life again, and Virgil said, the barest static around the edges of the words, "It's okay, man, I'm telling you. I see you, all right? I see you, I see the plane. Circling around now. They got a ZSU out here, damn near ran me over, but I got down into the brush before any of 'em spotted me. I'm good. So you take care of the skipper, all right? I'll catch up to you in a minute."
