Why the fuck is there a kitten on the kitchen table?
It’s a tiny scrap of a thing, soaking wet and staring up at him with big, round yellow eyes from where it’s swaddled in one of his and Stede’s towels. When Ed narrows his eyes at it, it emits a pitiful, high-pitched meow.
Stede rescues an abandoned kitten during a storm and decides to keep it. Ed is definitely not jealous of the kitten. Nope. Not one bit.

If anger and violence aren’t an inherent part of raising kids, what does that mean for the anger and violence that HE got the business end of when he was a kid? If he was looking after a little version of himself instead of Alma or Louis, would it still feel easy to not strike him? Was he just a more hittable kid?
Being a stepfather to Stede’s kids has made Ed realize some hard truths about his own upbringing.
