It’s like the first time you ride a rollercoaster, terror of going over the edge totally overpowered by a need to fall as far and as fast as you can. He felt it back at the studio and on stage at her school and he’s never going to get used to how good she is.

“It’s probably fine,” Reggie suggests, optimistic despite the uneasy quirk of his brows. “If anything was really wrong — like, missing limb wrong or abducted by aliens wrong — she’d’ve told us!”
Alex rolls his eyes so hard it has to hurt. Luke just scoffs, crossing his arms.
“Look," Alex sighs, "Julie will… probably be fine tomorrow. Or a few days. We should just give her some space tonight.”
Luke and Reggie both gape at him like he’s grown an elephant trunk. “Give her some space?” Luke demands. “When she’s sick?”
“We don’t know what she’s sick w—“
He’s too late. Luke seizes hold of Reggie’s arm, and they’re both gone before Alex can get another word out.
