Shrugging one shoulder far more casually than he possibly feels, Ilya says, “I like both. Is secret, okay?”
“Okay,” Hollander says, voice cracking.
He doesn’t say anything else. The air’s so heavy around them that it feels like being in the middle of a scrum, the weight and heat of all those bodies pressing down on you. Danger always feels like hockey; it’s the most dangerous thing Ilya knows, except for this. Everything dangerous in his life involves men’s bodies and just how close he can get to them. Closer than he probably should.
Nobody knows why Shane Hollander dropped out of the 2009 draft at the last second, and a year later it stuns the whole hockey world when he's signed by the Boston Raiders. Having the two biggest stars in the league on the same line is great for Boston - but playing alongside their worst rival was never exactly in Shane or Ilya's plans. Especially not when staying away from each other starts to feel just as impossible as getting along.

Recently: week long stay at the Hollanders cottage with Yuna and David. Shane does not yet own his own, so there’s a lot of sneaking around, and a 90 min round trip to Ottawa to fcuk at the empty Hollanders house. Shane and Ilya are photographed hanging out in Ottawa. Ilya has a lively boring domestic time, featuring crosswords, board games, and cut fruit. Ilya departs for Boston for the rest of the summer.
Update: Shane can’t figure out what’s going on and getting nervy meanwhile Ilya is floating ideas like “what if I don’t get rid of the apartment we live in together? I’m not sleeping with any of the women I flirt with in the club…for no reason at all… haha”
Ch 18: wow everyone is doing so good! Ope Hayden caught them kissing
Ch 19: the internalized homophobia is real and it is kicking Shane’s ass. He break things off with Ilya because it was super casual and no one had any feelings right?? Except both he and Ilya are freaking out and playing like shit and it’s not getting better. I’m pretty sure Shane and Ilya live in separate units in the same complex. They are no longer car pooling lol. -

Shane’s head snaps up at the mention of the Boston captain, eyes locking with Hayden’s. His friend looks amused, motioning to his phone.
“No, what about him?” Shane asks, trying to sound casual.
“He got some girl’s name tattooed on his leg. Apparently he was out partying with his team after their win and got it done. An Instagram post is going viral about it.”

Shane lifts one eyelid again to look at Rozanov. His eyes are red-rimmed. Like he’s been crying. “Why…why aren’t you in Boston?”
Rozanov’s brow furrows. “Why would I be in Boston?”
“You, you’re captain. Raiders. Boston.”
The room is silent except for the beeping of monitors.
In 2023, Shane takes a bad hit on the ice. When he wakes up, the last thing he remembers is a tuna melt.

Summary

It can't be that hard to make your husband fall in love with you... right?
Basically: Shane Hollander makes a wish with good intentions. Ilya Rozanov wakes up confused, single, closeted, and miserable in Boston.

Now Shane's on his knees on the floor of Ilya Rozanov's shower.
