297.3 PSYCHIC BLEEDDiagnostic Features
The essential feature of Psychic Bleed is an abnormal, involuntary transfer of feelings, thoughts, experiences, and preferences in a close relationship involving at least one psychic partner (Criterion A) following prolonged mind-to-mind to contact. The psychic partner, sometimes termed the "instigator" or "source case," is unable to prevent this transfer from occurring through traditional psionic defenses such as shielding, empathetic defense, or astral distancing (Criterion B). The transfer is not better accounted for by another psychic disorder (e.g. Latent Psychic Manifestation Syndrome) or individual mutations of either the source case or the receptive case (Criterion C). See below for diagnostic criteria.---

Because they cohabitated the vast majority of the eighty years of their partnership, much of what Xavier and Lehnsherr said about their work, their relationship, and their personal beliefs was known only to them. However, between 1943 and 1945, Lehnsherr was stationed in Los Alamos, New Mexico, as one of many physicists and chemists working on a weapon the likes of which the world had never before seen. It is in his correspondence with Lehnsherr during this time that Xavier's writing is at its most honest, vulnerable, and revealing of his character and convictions. It was also in these letters that Xavier elucidated for the first time the idea that would become his crowning achievement as well as the capstone of 20th-century biology: the human genome map.

Charles has lived a quiet, uneventful life in his cave by the coast--until three months ago, when a Genoshan knight rowed across the sea and landed on his beach. Sir Erik Lehnsherr is on a mission to petition the dragons for aid in defeating a powerful enemy: Sebastian Shaw, ruthless conqueror of the north. But despite Charles's help, the Westcastrian Council refuses to send aid. Now, on the eve of war, Erik leaves Westchester for the last time and rides north to join the desperate defense against Shaw's forces.
But Charles has fallen deeply in love with him, and it goes against his very nature as a dragon to abandon what he loves most. So, despite the Council's resolution not to interfere, and despite the fact that he's never before left home, Charles embarks on a journey northward to find Erik again and see him safe, whatever it takes.
