Summary
Oda Sakunosuke was meant to die in the grand scheme of the Book.
His death would teach Dazai grief. His blood would buy the Port Mafia’s legitimacy. That was the plan, anyway-- Natsume’s plan. Mori’s plan.
But Mori Ougai has never disobeyed before.
Out of envy, out of curiosity, out of something darker, Mori saves Oda instead, hiding him, keeping him. Not out of mercy, but as a test of his own ideals-- his first and greatest act of rebellion.
A year later, Dazai is gone. The city rots under uneasy peace. Akutagawa is fracturing under abandonment and expectation. And the man who was supposed to be dead is still breathing in a cell no one knows exists.
