He spoke of married life, of Shannon, in a way that made Frank pause. Yes, Eddie Diaz had loved his wife but Frank feared the man had yet to realize what kind of love. Actually Frank’s fear was that Eddie Diaz would never realize.

    Evan “Buck” Buckley, was frequently a subject in Eddie Diaz’s stories. The first time he had come up, the look on Eddie’s face had taken Frank’s breath away. For the first time since meeting Eddie Diaz, he was genuinely smiling. Soon, Frank would see this facial expression “the Buck smile”, where Eddie’s facade would disappear and his voice would drop with the same affection etched into every corner of his face.
