Summary
Bucky glances up at Sam through his eyelashes. His look is soft and a little wistful, and it abruptly explains everything from the past two years. Simmering just below the surface of this look is the reason why someone like Steve would drop the shield for Bucky not once but twice, and would make that same decision over and over again if he had to.
It’s not like Sam didn’t get it before. He did. Of course he did. He’d have given everything up for Riley, would still give all of this up in a heartbeat if it meant having Riley back in his life, now more than ever. He got it before, all right.
It’s just that now he understands.

probably the best and most well rounded sambucky story i have ever read. minus additional characters but that's ok. random country safe house with almost all avengers. slowly get to know. both struggle. little cat. steve mad initially. happy ending.
