A wistful ache worms inside Jackie’s rib cage, staring deep into brown. She’s almost convinced to break the silence, but then she hears a yawn, and a third person’s muttering.
Melissa rises behind Shauna, one eye squinting as she steps out into the light to stumble closer, plastering to Shauna’s side. “Mm, what are you doing? Come back to bed.”
Jackie turns before she can see their mouths connect.

Shauna takes a breath, but before she can respond Jackie rambles on, “I’m sure you and Tai have, like, a ton of fun up in the creepy attic, braiding each other’s hair or whatever. But... I need you, Shauna.”
