The metal door bangs against the brick like a shotgun. Through the half-dark of a damp, foggy London night John can see Sherlock wrestling with their suspect, right up against the damned edge of the roof, right up there, the two of them grunting and straining. For a microsecond John's frozen, all the air evacuated from his lungs in one great whoosh, then he’s moving, and Sherlock is kicking the man, and they’re both losing their balance, and their grip on each other.

“Shut up,” Steve says. And then he jumps out of the plane.

“What’s a guy like you doing in a place like this?” Clint says, instead.
Barnes snorts. “Having a drink,” he says, then gives Clint another one of those appraising looks. “You a professional?” he says, after a second, and Clint is momentarily confused.
A professional what?
And then he realizes Barnes must be talking about pool, and Clint huffs a laugh. “Only when there’s money involved,” he says, smirking, and Barnes kind of nods, like that makes any sort of sense.
Then Barnes nods again, a little more firmly, and says “You got a place?”
Which is about the point that Clint realizes that he’s not meeting the Winter Soldier in a bar, he’s being picked up by the Winter Soldier in a bar and-
“Yeah,” he croaks, clears his throat, thinks wildly that he’s really fucking glad Kate has Lucky for a few days, and says “Yeah, I got a place.”
Or, how Bucky got his groove back.
(And Clint too, but it was a different sort of groove)

Summary
Four years after the Battle of New York, Clint has created a stable life for himself and his young daughter, free of the dangers of SHIELD work.
The Winter Soldier turned himself in to the Avengers, expecting a death sentence or lifetime of imprisonment. Instead, he found absolution and an invitation to join the team. He is still adjusting to life as an Avenger when he meets Clint Barton and his daughter.
The young man that Bucky Barnes used to be was wholeheartedly enthusiastic about meeting his soulmate, but Bucky is not sure there’s a place for him in his soulmate’s life anymore.
Clint has spent his whole life dreading meeting his soulmate, drawing false conclusions from the hurtful words that were spoken in haste. They are both drawn to each other and are willing to give this a try, but will have to work together to overcome the shadows of their past.
Excerpt:
It’s one of the largest soulmarks Bucky has ever seen. The script in Bucky’s neat cursive handwriting starts at the crest of one shoulder and arcs below Clint’s collarbones to end at the crest of the other shoulder, golden letters that no tattoo ink has ever been able to replicate.
