One he now spends in his apartment half a world away from where it all happened, only going out by necessity, watching TV and working out with free weights four nights a week. He barely even drinks anymore, because it always loosens his brain’s tongue and fills him up with a choking kind of self-loathing that makes him consider the noose a little too intensely.
So he doesn’t meet his neighbors for four months after moving to the United States. When he does, it’s by accident.
