    Mu Qingfang visits the day after Shizun officially returns to Qing Jing from seclusion. He disappears into Shizun's bamboo house for almost a shichen. After Mu-shishu leaves, Luo Binghe lingers. He is close enough to see Ming Fan as he, too, leaves—carrying away used, bloody bandages to be disposed of.

    "Oh," Binghe says quietly to himself.

    Not a qi deviation or illness, then.

    Not unless it had caused Shizun to attack himself. After all, he'd been alone in the Lingxi Caves.

    Hadn't he?

    Later that afternoon, the first of the rumors finally hit Qing Jing Peak.

    Caught up in these thoughts, with the System breathing down his neck, Shen Qingqiu does not properly assess the situation as he should.

    Perhaps the biggest mistake Shen Qingqiu makes in this moment is not his confidence in Luo Binghe’s abilities nor the potential ripple effects of the changed situation surrounding his broken seal: it’s that he doesn’t think to be cautious of Luo Binghe.

    Shen Qingqiu, in his years in this role, has never harmed Luo Binghe. He hasn’t betrayed Luo Binghe yet. Shen Qingqiu has become far too accustomed to their easy, fond companionship. He forgets, in this moment, the way qi balance shifting wildly out of equilibrium can make people behave in unexpected, unpredictable, often violent ways.

    Even toward those they love.

    or: Shen Qingqiu makes a potentially catastrophic error at the Immortal Alliance Conference. One that changes everything...yet not what Shen Qingqiu cares about most.

From what I could tell, your body seemed pretty well-formed, but I don’t know when you died, whether it was before me and you had some issues settling in or if it was after me or—“
    “Help me get the rest of the way out of this hole,” Shen Qingqiu says. He’s going to break into a cold sweat soon if Shang Qinghua doesn’t stop implying that he doesn’t know what happened either.

    or: Both Shang Qinghua and Shen Qingqiu die and wake up in their Sun and Moon Dew Mushroom bodies, without any clue as to who, what, when, where, why, or how this happened. Predictably, shenanigans ensue.

    “Ah,” Yue Qingyuan says as he realizes what has happened, recognizing the golden dust after he’s already inhaled it. Being the Sect Leader of Cang Qiong Mountain, a cultivator of some repute, this is not the first time someone has attempted this sort of scheme on him; the taste is almost familiar. It is a common but effective aphrodisiac, relatively easy for malicious actors of this sort to get their hands on. 

    “What--?” Shen Qingqiu asks, throwing an arm up over his face, trying to block the dust with his sleeve. But he coughs, and Yue Qingyuan can already tell that it is too late for him as well. They have both breathed it in. 

    Oh, no.

    Yue Qingyuan and Shen Qingqiu both fall prey to a particular pollen, and must seek their cure in each other.
