Summary
A sheltered, teenage Gracia starts to feel lonely after her older brother moves out. But before long, she meets a rambunctious teenage boy. Brilliant but oft misunderstood, Maes Hughes has never fit in. Despite the odds, the two become unexpected friends. Almost 19, Roy Mustang has graduated the military academy and finally feels like he can protect himself and others. But while on a march to the front lines, he, along with fellow cadet, Hughes, are unexpectedly captured . Now in the hands of a cruel Aerugonian trafficker, the two must put their trust in an unexpected ally.
Nearing his wedding anniversary, Maes has a lot going for him. However, regret over his actions and beliefs from his time during the Ishval Civil War start to plague him. And then, out of the blue, the military is re-investigating his and Roy's time spent in captivity. And someone is trying to silence them.
Three separate POVs are woven together into one complete story, providing an idea of what Maes, Gracia and Roy's lives were like before the events of Brotherhood.
