Summary
He nuzzles closer, desperate for… something. For more. Ilya lolls his tongue out to lick at the side of his neck rhythmically. Over and over. Waiting for the reproof. Instead, Shane allows it, only letting out an amused huff as Ilya laps at him dumbly. So he works his way up, sticking his tongue in his ear, just to see what he’ll do. Shane jerks, the spatula flinging a few egg particles on to the counter.
“Stop it, you aren’t a dog,” Shane mumbles, voice still rough from sleep.
Ilya giggles, belly tightening. Pleased for some reason. Happy to get a reaction.

Summary
Ilya looks blankly at the opposite wall, eyes unfocused, expression neutral. Because that’s what’s best right now. Next to him on the couch, Sonya shifts, her small elbow poking into his side. He feels her freeze for a moment and then resume brushing her doll’s hair. The sudden sound of glass shattering cuts through the room. He feels Sonya look up at him so he meets her gaze. His stiff mouth twists into a smile and he pulls her close, she goes easily, head resting on his chest, doll clutched in her arms. Ilya’s fingers find her soft hair and he strokes it, feeling her stiff little body tense in his arms as they listen to raised voices from the next room.

Summary
Shane does not pull away, does not speak, does not kiss him again, just holds him like it is easier than letting him go, rocking them slowly back and forth on the edge of the mattress. There is a damp patch on his very nice new shirt where Ilya has failed to swallow back his tears, but he is cradling Ilya to him, anyway, like it doesn’t matter. Like it costs him nothing to do it.
Nobody has touched Ilya this way in a very, very long time. He had forgotten that it was possible to be handled with care—to be treated like a breakable object, instead of a broken one.OR: What happened in the hotel room after the Tampa Bay All-Stars Game.

Summary
How are you feeling today?
Ilya stares at Shane’s text, biting his lip.
You are asking too many questions again, Hollander, he types. His thumb hovers over the send button. Instead he deletes it, switching briefly to the Cryllic keyboard to type out: I feel like I was hit by a speed train, but instead of killing me it punched a hole through my heart, making more room for you.
Fuck, that’s insane.
OR
Ilya eats pelmeni and texts Shane a lot while still in Russia. Takes place the day after the tunnel phone call in episode 5.

Summary
Ilya has learned that love gives you time, but it cannot make forever out of two weeks.
He worries at his bottom lip, feeling the first seeds of dread as he leans against Shane’s bureau. He’s dressed, his bag is zipped, and it’s still dark outside. Shane sleeps, adorably, half on his stomach with his face nearly off the pillow. He didn’t need to get up as early as Ilya. You don’t need to get up as early just to drive someone to the airport.
It’s 3 am. Ilya’s flight is at 7:30 and they still need to make the two-hour drive.
OR
They had two weeks, and those two weeks are finished. Shane drives Ilya from the cottage to the airport.
