Summary
Somewhere in the multiverse, Pepper saves the world and pays the price. Tony lies in a coma, not expected to survive, and a grieving Steve Rogers is named as Morgan's legal guardian:
“Hey, Cap. You should probably have a seat for this one.” On the video, Tony took another sip of coffee. “You’re going to want to kill me. But sadly for you, if you’re watching this, things have gone wrong for my little family. Pepper and I are dead already. Vegetables. Whatever. You’ll have to hash out your feelings of impotent rage vis à vis me with your support group. Anyway, let me cut to the chase here: I’ve named you Morgan’s legal guardian. I’ll give you a second to pick your jaw up off the floor.”
Steve sank slowly to the bathroom tiles; Tony was right. He did need to sit down for this one.
“You over it? Good. Look, I should’ve asked you; Pepper thinks I did. And you know, I thought about it, but if I’d asked you, you might have said ‘no,’ and I couldn’t let you say ‘no,’ Cap. I just couldn’t. Pep and I don’t have a deep bench, okay? Our folks are dead, and when you’ve got no family, your options are limited. But you know that. And that is yet another reason I picked you.”

Summary
Bored out of his life, Tony makes a bet with Pepper that his next relationship will last six months. He only needs a partner that can tolerate him all this time and there is no one more perfect for that job than Captain America himself.
Steve has been the victim of many, if not all, gossip magazines. He gets stopped on the street, asked if he wants to date someone's granddaughter, and who’s the lucky one that gets to be his first kiss since the ‘40s.
Tony sees his perfect partner to win the bet with Pepper, but Steve immediately declines Tony’s offer. But Tony doesn’t have to wait long, after having the worst day Steve comes to Tony on his own.
It all would've been perfect, if there weren't Tony's feeling between them making every time Steve puts a distance between them so much more hurtful.
